Church History

Our St'Marks Church CSI Podanur South India,located in the Railway Coloney was built by employees of the Railways who were devoted Christians during the British governance in our country India. The Congregation included Royal Navy, Airforce and Military families who resided in Podanur. Members also included those of other communities who were literate advocates, Magistrate lawyers, doctors, teachers, Post & Telegraph Principals of schools Mrs.May Victor W/o Late Stanley Victor who was an advocate. Mrs.Hermon was a doctor who specialised in childcare. Mrs.Augustus was a nurse in the Railway hospital. Late Mr.Charles Martin was an engine driver in the Railways. LateMrs.Daphne Macfarline was a nurse, her husband Late Mr.Hubert Colin Macfarlain was a Major in the Indian Army. My Father Late Charles Vslentine Harris served in the Royal Navy and continued to serve our country in the Indian Navy. Late Mr Earnest Berges was a Brigadier in the Indian Army. His wife Nancy Berges and family attended service in our church. Late Mr.Verghees and Late Mr.Mathew where employed in the Railways. Late Mr.Alfred Vivian Harris served in the Royal Army. Late.Mr.Vincent Rann served in the Railways.His wife was employed as a teacher. Geoff Fowler and family were members of our church at present resides in Sydney Australia Mr.Charles Barden member of our Church lives in Sydney Australia. Mr.Trevor Joseph Maunto worked in the Railways
